看到網上的報導這樣寫，據說:

梵谷進聖雷米療養院修養，原本這裡的醫生禁止他畫畫。梵谷跟各式各樣的精神病患者住在一起，自己也被當成病人看待，心靈上的弧寂與煎熬，幾乎要將他吞沒 。他不斷要求醫生讓他畫畫，醫生終於答應了。這時候， 他瘋狂地作畫，聖雷米的庭園、附近的橄欖園和絲柏，都是他最佳的題材，包括這幅以絲柏樹為前景的「星夜 」。

一種流動感，以旋動的筆觸，賦予畫面十分生動而活躍的氣氛。它通過閃閃發亮的星光，捲動變化的夜雲，以及那似乎在舞蹈般晃動著的黝黑的柏樹，表現出一種內心不可平靜的渴求之感，對生命、對未來、對世界的不停息的追求。雖然他當時病了，卻仍然賦予了整幅畫作充滿節奏和韻味的形象與色彩。

美國歌星唐˙麥克林當看見紐約現代美術館藏文生˙梵谷的名作「星夜」後，情緒激動不已，隨手寫了這首「文生˙梵谷頌」，並以吉他自彈自唱，這是近年來非常受歡迎的流行歌曲，尤其１９９２年梵谷百年誕辰時，全球風行，大家在唱在聽，好像在向「文生」致敬，大聲跟梵谷說：「生前沒了解您，對不起，我向您致敬」。
